Install the Backup Utility in Windows Home More Tips
Window Xp Support Tip.

If you use Windows Home Edition, you may have been surprised to find that there is not a backup utility included by default. If you don't believer me go and check under System Tools in the Start Menu - See I told you, it's not there! Tip, Microsoft was good enough to include it on the Windows Home installation CD so you can install it.

Insert the Windows CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI (it might look like just "Ntbackup") program from the folder D:\Valueadd\msft\ntbackup - change "D:" to the letter of your CD drive. This will launch the Windows Backup Utility Installation Wizard, which will install the utility automatically. Click "Finish." It's that easy!

Click - Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup, and the Backup Utility will start. WinXpFix.com

Automated System Recovery in Windows Home Edition.
Window Xp Support Tip.

if you have Windows Home Edition, you can create a System Restore Point to help you if you need to recover or restore your computer system back to a certain point in time. But what if you use Windows Professional Edition? You should employ the Automated System Recovery Wizard to help you restore your computer system when disaster strikes. The Automated System Recovery Wizard will walk you through the steps of creating both a backup set and a Recovery Disk (floppy). To use the Wizard, follow these steps:

1. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup.
2. When the Backup or Restore Wizard starts, click on Advanced Mode.
3. On the Welcome tab, click the button at the bottom next to Automated System Recovery Wizard.
4. This will start the Wizard, which will prompt you for the media to use for the backup file, after clicking Next.
5. If you have a tape drive installed, this file can go there, but you can also write this file to a hard drive. This is the fastest method, but it also requires lots of free space. A writeable CD will work, if the CDRW software allows it to be access via a drive letter.
6. After entering the destination for the backup file, click Next again, and then Finish.
7. The Windows Backup utility will copy all of the important system files and settings to the backup file. An estimate and status bar is provided, as this step can take a considerable amount of time. After this step is complete, you will be prompted for a blank, formatted floppy disk. Several files are written to the disk, and then the process is complete.

Remember that this process will only help you restore your computer system - you will need a separate plan for backing up your data files (for instance Word documents, MP3s or spreadsheets that you have created).

Removing MSN Messenger from WinXP

Removing MSN? Some of you out there may wish to remove MSN Messenger from Windows. I know it's hard to believe. But, it doesn't appear from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel. In order for it to show up there, you must first edit the file named sysoc.inf. This file can be found in a folder named INF, which is a subfolder of the Windows folder (or in some cases the winnt folder, depending on how your OS was installed). You can open that file in notepad. Look for the following line to edit:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

and then remove the word "hide" while leaving the commas on place (""). Save and close the file, now open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel, so now you can remove it like any other program. Easy yes? WinXpFix.com

Create a System Restore Point in Windows Home Edition.
Window Xp Support Tip
By: WinXpFix.com

How to Create a System Restore Point : If you are using Windows Home Edition, you have a handy utility called the System Restore utility that will allow you to create a System Restore Point. This is a snapshot of your system that you can restore to at any time, should you begin to experience problems with your Windows Home computer.

Here's how to create a new System Restore Point in Windows Home Edition, click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. When the System Restore Utility opens, click "Create a Restore Point" then click Next. Enter a name for this Restore Point (for instance, "Before Installing XXX or the date 1/01/02"), then click Create. The utility will then take a snapshot of your system so that you can restore to that point sometime in the future. WinXpFix.com

Get Fast Access to System Settings in XP:

You don’t need to pass through Control Panel to get to the System Properties dialog box.

Just hold down the Windows key and press Break to open this handy dialog box immediately. Try it a few time so you will get use to pressing the keys rather then using the mouse,

If you have no Windows key. You can create a shortcut to Sysdm.cpl (you’ll find it in the %systemroot%\System32 folder) and place it anywhere in the Programs menu. Then open the shortcut’s Properties dialog box and assign it an easy-to-remember keyboard shortcut such as Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S.

Some laptop keyboards may have separate keys for Break and Pause, and you may find this dialog box opens if you hold the Windows key and press Pause.
