Windows Service Pack 1
(SP1) provides the latest updates to the Windows
family of operating systems. These updates are a collection
of fixes in the following areas: application compatibility,
operating system reliability, security, and setup. Microsoft
urges all Windows users to apply Windows SP1 to
their systems.
Windows SP1 Provides Enhanced Security
Windows SP1 includes all of the security
patches available via Windows Update. It also contains
all updates resulting from the Windows code review conducted
earlier this year as part of the Trustworthy Computing
initiative.
In addition to the traditional service
pack updates, Windows SP1 delivers the required changes
of the proposed consent decree signed with the U.S.
Department of Justice and nine state attorneys general.
The changes allow both computer manufacturers and users
to remove end-user access to Microsoft® Internet
Explorer browser software, Windows Media™ Player,
Windows Messenger, Outlook® Express and Microsoft's
Java virtual machine. This is just one of many components
of the compliance effort undertaken by Microsoft since
the consent decree was signed in November 2001.
Windows: The Foundation for the Future
Windows will serve as the basis for
several new and exciting Microsoft products designed
to extend users' experiences. Those products include
the following:
Windows Tablet PC Edition. Software
for a business-focused mobile PC with additional Tablet
functionality that allows mobile users to take handwritten
notes in meetings and on the go
Windows Media Center Edition. Software for a media-focused
desktop PC for the home that allows users to access
their digital media files from anywhere in the room
using a new user interface and a remote control
Windows Powered Smart Display. The evolution of the
PC monitor that will allow consumers to wirelessly connect
to their Windows-based PC, liberating them from their
desk and empowering them with more-convenient access
- anywhere in the home -to the information, applications
and services they enjoy most.
Note: If your using a
hacked product key and activation code, you maybe locked
out of you computer. Microsoft database has BILLIONS
of LEGIT activation/product keys, when you go to update,
they compare yours to theirs. Welcome to wonderful world

Security Hole:
Microsoft released a service pack for Windows. It
fixes a serious security hole that Microsoft has known
about for more than 10 weeks.
The Windows security hole involves
Windows help. The hole lets anyone put a link on
a web site that can wipe out certain hard-drive directories.
If, for whatever reason, you don't or
can't download the service pack, there is an alternative.
There's a file you can rename or delete to fix the security
hole. (Thanks to The Screen Savers for this tip.)
The Steps:
A. Perform a search for a file on your
C drive called uplddrvinfo.htm.
B. Once you've found the file, delete
it or rename it (rename is better, you can rename back).
Doing so will not hinder your ability to use Windows.
